I’m sure you remember what that was like when you first discovered your passion. I remember it like it was yesterday!
There I was a 19 year old taking my first Desktop Publishing class at the local community college. It was there that I began learning to use Adobe PageMaker, it was the year 2000, and I was in love. Not with a boy but with page layout. I had just finished making my first brochure and it looked awesome! My name is Angela Wieder and I am a Graphic Designer.
Several years down the line I started doing the layout for the Rowan Magazine, and I loved it even more than I did making that first brochure. We, of course, used QuarkXpress at the time and then later switched to Adobe InDesign.
I have an Associates degree in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Charlotte, and have been a designer for the last 12 years. I’ve worked on various forms of media including POP display, direct mail, website design, t-shirt design, brochures, logo creation, advertisements and of course my favorite, magazine layout.
More recently I attended Liberty University and have a Bachelor’s Degree in Religion. One day I hope to find a career that is not just a job but is a calling. I hope to be able me to use both of my degrees to the fullest. My passion has always been page layout so I would love to have the opportunity to do layout once again some day and to bring others to the knowledge of God in the process. With that said, I feel like God did not design me to be seated behind a desk all day, every day, but has instead created me to share his love with others, whether that be by sharing my testimony, sharing His love through a form of Christian media (magazine, non-profit, ministry, etc.) or by simply being a light that shines for Him daily.
I always try to keep Micah 6:8 in the forefront of my mind, it says:
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.”
I know I’m not a perfect person, but if those three things are part of what the Lord requires of me then that is goal. I know the first day I’ll ever be perfect is when I’m standing in His presence, but in the meantime I try my best to act justly, love others with mercy and kindness and stay humble as I walk daily with my Savior.
